Hokjesgeest
By prejudging other people we construct groups by categorizing them through religion, culture, education and political views. This form of inclination is called sectarianism and it results in distrust, discrimination and hatred between people. To create awareness and to stimulate debates about this topic within our society, a competition was initialized. Students from the Netherlands and Belgium art academies were asked to design posters for this subject. By participating in this competition I inquired the question if a competition itself is responsible for creating sectarianism. This competition is created under the Dutch word “Hokjesgeest” which means the temperament to place people in boxes. I designed a poster asking the question “do I fit in?” As an proposition to the idea. Eventually my design was displayed among the other 56 winners of the competition.
